Region: DO Pago Guijoso

This DO is a ‘pago’, meaning that the entire DO is comprised of just one single-estate, family-owned winery that creates wine with its own unique characteristics following strict quality guidelines. There are only six such wineries in Spain that have earned their own DO status, and Bodegas y Viñedos Sánchez Muliterno is one of the select few.

Bodegas Sanchez Muliterno
The Sanchez Muliterno family estate is located 1000 meters above sea level, with poor soil and a unique terroir that allows them to grow tremendous quality grapes that are surprising in this otherwise barren landscape. The altitude of their vineyards provides sunny days and cool nights, and this diurnal temperature variation allows the variety of grapes grown in their 98 hectares to undergo a long, slow ripening period. Dr. Richard Smart consults with Juan Sanchez-Muliterno on his vineyard plantings, and the bodega uses many innovations in their techniques. Sanchez-Muliterno is a prestigious wine in Spain and considered some of the best single-estate wines in the country.
